Martin Luther King Jr. Projects
Wow!! I was so impressed and happy with how well the students did with their MLK projects. It was so fun and exciting watching them present all of the information they had learned. I can tell that each student worked hard and put a lot of effort into their projects. The projects will be on display for the next few weeks in the Media Center. Below are a few pictures of their projects. Great job!!

Welcome Back!
Wow! We have officially completed half of our school year! 92 days down!! The students came back from our winter break and were easily able to get right back into the swing of things! Your child's 2nd 9 weeks report cards will come home today. I am so proud of the growth I am seeing in each child. They are continuing to work hard to prepare for 3rd grade. Please sign the signature card and return it with the envelope as soon as possible.
This week we began learning a new strategy in math. It is called Partial Sums. It is another strategy to use when adding numbers. We have been focusing on adding up to 4 two digit numbers. The students were easily able to use the strategy. We will also use this strategy to solve word problems.
We just finished up our Non-fiction text feature in class projects. The students did a great job! They will come home in the next week or so for you to see. We will begin our review of contractions this week and next and then move into opinion writing.
This week we attended the science lab. Students made a sun dial. They learned that a sun dial can help tell time. Below are a few pictures of the students trying out their sun dials.
In Social Studies, we began learning about Martin Luther King Jr. Students completed an egg experiment yesterday. They observed two different colored eggs. They wrote similarities and differences between the two. Then we cracked up the eggs and noticed that they looked the same inside. We talked about the importance of being different and how just because we look different on the outside, doesn't mean we should be treated differently. Students will bring home a take home project on Monday. They will be required to create a collage, power point, poster, or scrapbook about Dr. King's life. This will replace homework for the next two weeks with the exception of spelling. The project will be due Thursday, January 21st.
