Weekly Update

On Friday, we were fortunate enough to have author Carmen Deedy visit our school! She has written several books and has actually visited Addison before! The students LOVED hearing her share one of her stories about her life and how she became an author. She was AWESOME!

We have also been busy wrapping up our 3rd nine weeks of school. Students have reviewed comparing numbers in math and are now working on regrouping 2 and 3 digit numbers with addition. Next week we will work on regrouping with subtraction.

In Language Arts and Reading, we have been learning about possessive nouns. Students are learning that possessive nouns show ownership. Students are continuing to meet with Ms. Lindsey and I in guided reading groups. We are focusing on building our comprehension and retelling stories. We will begin our Folktale, Fable, and Fairytale unit next week. Students will work on comparing and contrasting different versions of the stories.

In Writing, we have been working on opinion writing. Students listened to a story called Duck! Rabbit!. They had to decide whether they thought the animal was a duck or a rabbit. They formed an opinion and then gave 3 reasons, with details, to help back up their opinion. They did a great job!

In Social Studies, we have been learning about Jackie Robinson. Students learned that he was the first African American to play major league baseball. They learned that he was dependable, trustworthy, patient, and showed good sportsmanship. Below is a picture of Jackie Robinson puppets the students made. They wrote as if they were Jackie Robinson and shared important facts about his life.
